I have worked at the Woodlands since 1998 and I really enjoy my job. Prior to working at the Woodlands I have done various jobs from waitress, sales assistant and also worked as a groom with Horses. Although I enjoyed these jobs at the time I have really found my feet at Woodlands. I am the Deputy Manager now and support Jo in the running of the home. I find my job very rewarding, especially when the residents achieve their goals. It gives me a sense of purpose and I feel very proud to be making a positive difference in people’s lives.

I have lived at the woodlands for a few years now.
I like the staff at Woodlands they help us. I want to stay here for ever. Sometimes things get noisy so I just walk away. I have my own room and I look after it my self. At the weekend I help with the potatoes and put them in a glass dish in the oven.
I go to the centre each week I like it there. I go shopping with Jo the manager and go to college in a taxi. I like living at woodlands it’s comfortable.

My name is Jo, I like to be called this as its user friendly, and I don’t think I’m a Josephine. I was a scout leader for 25 years and have been a carer for many years so I feel I am a people person. I have many hobbies but the main one’s are; cooking, I think I could give Jamie Oliver a run for his money. I love to read and go for long walks.
I have been involved with people with a LD since 1972 when I started work at LCH as a trainee nurse.

I qualified in 1975 and have worked at senior level for the last 33 years.
I have been manager with the Woodlands/Ashwood group for nearly 9 years.
I enjoy my job and I get a great deal of satisfaction from it. Its hard work and stressful at times but the residents make it all worth while.
My qualifications are; SENMS, RMA, HNDMCS, and Last year I gained GCS in English literature and key skill 2 in mathematics. I have completed numerous training courses and have a qualification in care of people with dementia, first aid and HACCP.
My aim for the future is to upgrade my HND to a degree at Worcester College. I would also like to do a computer course.
