From the late 1960’s it became increasingly more common for children with learning disabilities to remain living at home, supported by their families and with growing acceptance from their local communities. As a consequence less people were admitted to long stay hospitals and they’re planned closure commenced. Families were making demands on statutory services for better local community based provision.
In the early 1970’s David Denton and his wife Ann were training to become R.N.M.S.‘s, at Lea Castle Hospital, the trend towards care in the community and lack of residential homes, inspired them to open a residential home, with a family friend, Mike Coulson, they opened Ashwood and approximately 9 years later Woodlands was opened.
Both homes are based in Kidderminster and are run separately each having their own manager. The Aims and Objectives of the homes are the same: - to work to attain the highest standards of care possible. David and Ann retired September 2005, leaving Mike Coulson as the sole Proprietor. In February 2008 Romi and Amrik Bagga took over as Proprietors.
